Changes
Well, I thought i'd take a few minutes to ramble a little. Mostly because once the damn server is up, we have some serious changes coming. But I also want to talk about a few other things.

To start with, the staff situation. We current have one resigned gm (Melkor) and two inactive (Soul, Ender). Beacuse of this, I am in the process of hiring in a new developer/webmaster for the staff. The person has been selected and will be put in for testing.

While i'm talking about staff, I would like to talk about staff player characters for a minute.

Yes. We have them. We try to keep them secret, but in this a small community, it is pretty hard. To explain our stance on this, GM'ing gets boring. GMs on servers that do not allow them nearly always have "sekrit" ones. Usually twinked.

No, twinking them is not allowed. I do not twink my own characters and the two cases of twinking we have had so far (Anarchy - Dementia) (Odin - Celtain Britain) have been done away with. Anarchy was up for banning quite a while, but until we could shut down all ways for him to attack the server (apart from his petty revenge in IRC) I did not want to do it.

To get back on the topic of changes, we have a few more new things coming up:

  • A new domain and webpage (chaosbound.n3.net, almost complete)
  • A new messageboard (possibly a UBB board)
  • A new IRC room (#chaosbound on irc.sorcery.net (port 6667), stratics is screwy with oping)
  • A patch program for the .mul files (instead of downloading the full files, will shorten setup time for new players)
  • Some serious advertisement for the shard. We want players, and we're gonna try to get them
  • I know you are not going to like this... but we're also going to put up banner ads. Some of these things will cost money, and money don't grow on trees >:) Clicking the banners will still be voluntarily, but doing so once a day will help alot in keeping the server alive.
And for ingame changes, there will be quite a few as well. To start with, the race system is getting a revamp. Your fellow race members will be blue to you, as will allied races be, and we are doing away with "Don't kill your own" rule. Evil and Good will gain slightly bigger differences in the way their Guards/Notority are handled. Also, guild system will be revamped. Races will be able to create and join guilds, chaos/order added in, and guildwars revamped to work like the OSI ones. As a part of this we will need to wipe all guilds, so I suggest you page a gm sometime before this (will be next patch, probably a week or so after it comes up) and have them deed your guildstone.

We've also finished a lot on the new continent, and plane of earth only needs it's decor finished before we open it. Plane of Earth will be a VERY challening place. We will be "sponsoring" a raid when it opens, to give you a show of it.

The next patches will be tweaked towards bug fixing. Though we are relatively bug-free from what i've seen, there are still some pretty big ones lurking out there, and these will be fixed as soon as possible. I am also having our new webmaster/developer start some serious advertising for the shard.

To sum it up, I'll make a little list of some IG and OG changes not yet mentioned that will have taken place when it opens again:

  • The bug with spells/murder reporting have been partially fixed, and is being worked on even more
  • Spells now have a range check (12 tiles)
  • Magery gain has been changed. Gain from fizzling has been cut back by 3/4ths. Casting a spell you are good at is way better for gain than just casting level 9 spells and fizzling
  • The RP rule has been revamped. RP is now only mandatory during quests, but still highly encouraged. Read the rules page
  • We now have a server status page
  • A automatic account creator will soon be up
