Role Playing
This will hopefully attempt to sort through various misconceptions about role-playing ,and help make our shard a more friendly role-playing environment. The first thing to remember is role-playing does not have to consist of using 'thee' , 'thou', and 'thine'. Role-Playing is simply like being a television, or movie actor, you assume a character role.

The first thing you need to do is figure out your character's psyche, or what makes him/her tick?

  • Where were you born, and what did your parents do ?

  • What are your beliefs ? (i.e religion, ideals, values)

  • What fears or aversions may your character have ? (fear of magic, or clerics, or dragons)

  • What kind of activities do you enjoy ? (mindlessly camping a dungeon not included)

  • What is your characters 1 -3 biggest goals in life ?

  • Why did you choose to become a murderer? (cos I'm insane, ph34r me is not an answer)

The biggest problem always lies with the PK'ing. If you want to play a murderer, fine. However, do it with pizazz, or some form of context. Maybe you are avenging a childhood experience and have pure animosity towards devout clerics and their religion, etc. If you do wish your character to be insane, fine. However that doesn't mean to hang out with your 'friends' at the bank when the mood fits you. You should stick within that character at all times.

Your character wouldn't know what his strength is, he would just know that he is strong enough to equip plate for example. And he wouldn't know his skills either, he would just know when he is good at something or not. He also wouldn't know what skill level he needs to create a certain potion or to craft a certain armor, he just would get a feeling that he can accomplish those tasks.

If anyone has anything they would like to add to this, please feel free to contact a staff member. We always welcome submissions, etc to attempt to provide a better role playing environment for our community.
